Well, well, well, looks like Kartik Aaryan's 'Naagzilla' is taking its sweet time to slither onto our screens! The much-talked-about fantasy comedy, backed by Dharma Productions and Mahaveer Jain Films, has officially jiggled its release date, pushing it from the Independence Day weekend in August 2026 all the way to Valentine's Day weekend in February 2027. That's a whole six months later, folks!
From Patriotic Punch to Romantic Rendezvous
Initially, 'Naagzilla' was set to uncoil on August 14, 2026. You know, that prime Independence Day slot that's usually full paisa vasool for big-ticket Bollywood releases. But now, the makers have decided February 12, 2027, is the new D-Day. Shifting from a national holiday weekend to Valentine's Day is a bold move, honestly. Independence Day has that big-ticket, massy appeal, while Valentine's leans into romance and lighter fare. Maybe they're banking on the film's blend of fantasy, comedy, and romance to hook couples?
This date change also means 'Naagzilla' gracefully sidesteps a potential clash with Sunny Deol's 'Lahore 1947', which is slated for August 13. That Rajkumar Santoshi directorial, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, is a big one too. So, avoiding that box office face-off is definitely a smart play.
Icchadhaari Nagin... Uh, Nag? And the Team Behind It
Kartik Aaryan as an icchadhaari naag? Sounds wild, right? But with Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, the genius behind the hilarious Fukrey films, at the helm, I'm actually quite optimistic. He knows how to blend quirky characters with genuine laughs. And his description β 'Hera Pheri meets Fukrey in an icchadhaari world' β now THAT'S a promise right there!
The film also stars Preity Mukhundhan opposite Kartik, adding a fresh face to the mix. It's a significant collaboration, marking Kartik's big project with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Mahaveer Jain. The film is clearly a VFX-heavy project, which might be a big reason for the delay. You can't rush good CGI, especially when your lead is turning into a serpent. We definitely don't want another epic VFX fail, do we?
So, while we'll have to wait a bit longer to see Kartik shed his skin (literally!), this strategic shift feels like the makers are giving 'Naagzilla' the time it needs to truly shine. Valentine's Day 2027 might just be the perfect spot for this unique blend of fantasy, comedy, and a dash of romance. Let's hope it's worth the wait, yaar!
