The OG Twitter War Gets a Big Screen Rematch
Okay, BollyTadka fam, remember that epic, no-holds-barred Twitter war between Diljit Dosanjh and Kangana Ranaut back in 2020? Yeah, the one over the Farmer's Protest that had everyone glued to their screens? Well, hold onto your popcorn, because nearly five and a half years later, the universe has decided to give us a real-life, big-screen rematch!
Turns out, their films are now going head-to-head on the very same day: June 12. Talk about poetic justice, or maybe just pure, delicious irony. This isn't even their first box office tango, by the way. Cast your minds back to July 26, 2019. Diljit’s spoof comedy Arjun Patiala, with Kriti Sanon and Varun Sharma, clashed directly with Kangana’s quirky black comedy Judgementall Hai Kya, co-starring Rajkummar Rao. So yeah, these two have a history, on and off screen. This June 12 clash? It’s Round 3, pakka!
Diljit's Partition Drama vs. Kangana's 26/11 Saga
First up, we have Diljit Dosanjh in a crucial role for Main Vaapas Aaunga. This one's got some serious pedigree, yaar. It’s directed by none other than Imtiaz Ali, and also stars Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Naseeruddin Shah, and Anjana Sukhani. If you loved their last collaboration, the absolutely brilliant Netflix musical Amar Singh Chamkila from 2024, then you know this duo can deliver. And just like Chamkila, the music for Main Vaapas Aaunga is composed by the maestro himself, A.R. Rahman. The film spans the 1947 Partition era and the present day, which sounds like a really compelling, emotional journey. Given the success and critical acclaim of Chamkila, this one feels like a promising bet for Diljit and Imtiaz.
On the other side of the ring, we have Kangana Ranaut starring in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. Here, Kangana takes on the challenging role of a nurse, saving lives at Cama And Albless Hospital during Mumbai's harrowing 26/11 terror attacks. That’s a heavy, sensitive subject, and Kangana playing a real-life hero amidst such chaos certainly sounds intense. The film also features Girija Oak Godbole, Smita Tambe, Suhita Thatte, Asha Shelar, Priya Berde, and Esha Dey. It’s presented by Dr Jayantilal Gada's PEN Studios and Manikarnika Films, with Kangana herself among the producers. Manoj Tapadia is at the helm as director. This kind of patriotic, real-event-based drama can really resonate with audiences, but it needs to be handled with immense care and authenticity.
Who Takes This Round?
So, what does this mean for the box office? Will this unexpected face-off translate into more eyeballs for both films, or will they end up cannibalizing each other's collections? Honestly, it's hard to say right now, but one thing is for sure: this Diljit-Kangana clash has instantly become the biggest talking point for June 12 releases. Fans are already buzzing, trying to figure out which film will pull ahead. Will it be the soulful historical drama from the Chamkila team, or the intense, real-life heroism saga led by Kangana? This is going to be a fun one to watch, full paisa vasool drama, off-screen and on!
